Error reduction and quality improvement in construction will be discussed at the second joint meeting of the Get It Right Initiative and the Construction Quality Improvement Collaborative (CQIC) in Edinburgh on 9 July.

The event will feature expert speakers sharing the latest developments and case study examples of where error reduction has contributed to improved productivity and quality.

Emer Murnaghan OBE, innovation director for Graham Civil Engineering, will give a talk titled ‘The Tiger Team approach to Innovation to drive productivity and sustainability’, while Ewen Fowlie, operations director from hub North Scotland, will share a case study on Countesswells Primary School, a project handed over three weeks early with zero snags or defects.

Emer and Ewen will be joined by GIRI’s Cliff Smith and the CQIC’s Colin Campbell for an interactive Q&A session and roundtable that will consider questions such as the impact that bodies like GIRI and the CQIC are having on the sector and what more can be done, the link between procurement, quality and productivity, and the influence of other factors such as Contractor Design Portion (CPD).

The meeting, which is free to attend, is taking place on 9 July at the COSLA Conference Centre in Edinburgh from 9.30am. It will close with a networking lunch from 12.15pm.
