CDP Recommendations Coming Soon

Over the last 25-30 years there has been an increasing tendency to use Contractor Design Portion (CDP) for construction projects where a range of specialist sub-contractors are required to contribute towards the overall design and construction of major buildings. However, many believe the CDP system is being used inappropriately and too late in the process. The way it is used also has an impact on how compliance with Building Standards is delivered.

During 2024 CQIC undertook a construction industry-wide survey seeking views on the issue of CDP. This had a great response reflecting how important it is as a topic across the sector.

The survey sought the views on what needs to change to improve the CDP process.

In total there were more than 380 respondents from a wide spread of organisation types and sizes covering a variety of client bodies, professions and occupations from across the construction sector.

In the period since the survey a working group of experienced industry professionals has analysed the results and come up with a series of recommendations on how CDP can be used more effectively to deliver high standards of construction quality and compliance. They have consulted further with industry and they are currently finalising a version of the recommendations for publication.

Once ready the recommendations will be published and made available from this page.
