CQIC and the Get It Right Initiative (GIRI) are holding their 4th joint conference on 23 June in Edinburgh.
As a new approach to compliance is being developed in Scotland by the Building Standards Division of the Scottish Government and the Building Safety Act impacts on construction in England, we will explore the importance of compliance in error reduction, quality and safety.
The new Compliance Plan Approach (CPA) will define and implement an appropriate, proactive and robust building warrant compliance assurance regime. Frank Doherty of Scottish Government Building Standards Division will provide an update on the CPA development and implementation.
Cliff Smith, Exective Director of GIRI will give an update of GIRI activity and the importance of error reduction in delivering safe and compliant buildings.
Neil McIntyre of Dumfries and Galloway Council will provide a Client’s perspective on the approach to compliance and quality. The Council’s Dumfries High School project is an Early Adopter of the CPA.
We’ll get a contractor’s perspective on the same subjects from Stephen Milford of BAM Construction. Steven was involved in the pilot of the CPA at Dunfermline Learning Campus and is working on Templehall Community Centre which is an Early Adopter project for the approach.
Contractor Design Portion (CDP) is an issue that comes up constantly when discussing compliance and quality. CQIC recently published Recommendations on how CDP can better be used to support both compliance and quality. CQIC co-chair Iain Kent of Morgan Sindall will present on the CQIC work on CDP and the Recommendations that were published.
We will also hear a comparison with the changes taking place in England, where the Building Safety Act has introduced a framework approach to the design, construction, and management of buildings. Adrian Shilliday of Galliford Try will provide an insight into the new approaches in England.
With keynote presentations from industry leaders and roundtable discussions to share insight and expertise, this conference provides a valuable forum for senior managers and quality professionals within the construction sector.
