On 24 June 2025 the Get It Right Initiative (GIRI) and the Construction Quality Improvement Collaborative (CQIC) held a joint meeting in The Lighthouse building in central Glasgow to explore building safety and quality in construction following the Grenfell Tower inquiry report. Both GIRI and CQIC are extremely grateful to all those that participated and made it such an interactive and valuable session.
Over 60 attendees from across the sector heard how building safety depends upon projects being briefed, designed, procured, constructed and commissioned to the required standards of compliance and quality. The Grenfell tragedy was an extreme example of all of these areas of activity failing catastrophically.
Speakers were –
- Stephen Garvin, Head of Building Standards Division at The Scottish Government
- Cliff Smith, Executive Director, The Get It Right Initiative
- Iain Kent, Commercial Director at Morgan Sindall Construction and Co- Chair, Construction Quality Improvement Collaborative
- Ann Leslie, Chief Executive, LAR Housing Trust
- Colin Harris, Head of Quality Control at Robertson Group
This meeting brought together people with an interest in construction quality from across the public and private sectors to discuss and learn from efforts to improve construction quality and safety. Those attending participated in interactive roundtable discussions to explore how the construction industry can improve error reduction, quality and productivity and discuss the barriers to doing so. The output from these discussions is being analysed and will be published on this site once available.
In the meantime, copies of the slides from the day are available here –
