A major source of conflict and disputes in construction is failures in quality. The CQIC mantra is that such disputes can be avoided by proactively managing quality and getting it right first time. However, we are not quite there yet and conflict and disputes are still arising and, of course there are other sources of conflict. Conflict and disputes come at a cost – financial, relationships and reputation. Collaboration on projects can break down which can have a serious impact on the delivery of quality.

The Conflict Avoidance Coalition brings together over 100 leading organisations – including public bodies, contractors, consultants, and professional institutions – who are united in a shared mission: to reduce the financial, reputational, and relational costs of disputes through better conflict management.

Another of the Scottish Government Procurement Policy Unit’s series of webinars under the banner “the Construction Procurement Sessions” is taking place on Monday 8 December, at 10am. The Conflict Avoidance Coalition’s President, Len Bunton FRICS FCIArb Hon FRIAS, will talk about the work of the Coalition, the purpose of the conflict avoidance process and the benefit to programme, budget and professional relationships from the early consideration of an emerging disagreement.
