Building Standards Consultation

The Scottish Government is seeking to introduce new building standards enforcement measures and sanctions intended to strengthen existing enforcement powers used by local authorities and to increase existing penalties for non-compliance of building standards. Among some of the measures included are giving local authorities the ability to take action against owners rather than just occupiers, increasing the maximum fine to £50,000 and introducing custodial sentences for non-compliance. The consultation on the new measures is open until 22 January 2024. Read more about the proposed measures, and contribute to the consultation, here – Building Standards Consultation.
